Cutting-edge Physical Therapy That Improves Health and Optimizes Performance!

At Advanced Physical Therapy, our therapists examine individuals with impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities or other health related conditions in order to determine a diagnosis and decide what interventions are necessary. Our goal is to alleviate impairments and functional limitations by designing, implementing, and modifying therapeutic interventions. Therapists also work to prevent injury, impairment, functional limitation, and disability, by promoting fitness, health, and quality of life in people of all ages.

Our therapists offer experience in the evaluation and treatment of outpatient orthopedic therapy; shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, foot and ankle rehabilitation; joint and muscle pain; pre/post-surgical rehabilitation, back and neck disorders; arthritis management; sports-related injuries; work related injuries, motor vehicle related injuries, pre/post gastric bypass surgery, women’s/men’s health, pelvic pain, incontinence therapy, stroke rehabilitation and other neurological disorders (including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, Guillain Barre syndrome); walking or balance disorders, vestibular rehab, and TMJ pain/disorders. Your therapy may include the following:

Manual Therapy Techniques

Soft tissue massage, myofascial release, stretching, and/or joint mobilizations/manipulations to alleviate your pain, elongate and relax tissues, loosen adhered/hypomobile joints and balance out asymmetries in your body.

Therapeutic Exercise

Various exercises planned and performed to attain a specific physical benefit, such as maintenance of range of motion, strengthening weakened muscles, increasing flexibility, or improving neuromuscular, cardiovascular or respiratory function.

Comprehensive Spine Care

Instruction on proper body mechanics, stabilization exercises and self-treatment techniques, along with cervical or lumbar traction (when necessary) to supplement the hands on treatment you receive in the clinic.

Home Exercise Program

An individually customized home exercise program that will give you the tools to manage your injury, continue to improve your function and help prevent future injuries.

Modalities

Ultrasound, iontophoresis, electric stimulation, TENS, biofeedback, traction, and hot and cold packs used to alleviate symptoms and speed recovery.

Sports Performance Training

Overall strength and flexibility personal training is available for non-injured individuals and post rehab patients. This includes incorporating the AlterG antigravity treadmill for specific sports needs. We analyze balance, posture and muscle length and gait and/or sport specific biomechanics (ie golf swing, throwing, running) to design sport-specific and customized exercise programs.

What does a physical therapist look for during an examination?

  • Motor Function: the body's ability to learn and demonstrate voluntary postures and movement patterns related to performing activities of daily living, work related tasks, sports related movements, or recreational activities.
  • Muscle Performance: assessment of muscle strength, power, and endurance and their symmetry and flexibility.
  • Range of Motion: measurement of the excursion of the joints of the body (goniometry) and, if restrictions are present, determining the cause of the restriction to properly address it during treatment.
  • Gait and Balance: assessment of disturbances in gait and balance that may lead to an increased incidence of falls, decrease in function or aerobic capacity, or loss of ability to perform activities of daily living.
  • Neuromotor Development and Sensory Integration: assesment of the acquisition and evolution of movement skills and abilities across the life span and the ability to integrate sensory information from the environment to produce movement.
  • Aerobic Capacity and Endurance: measurement of the ability to perform work or participate in activities.
  • Ventilation, Respiration, and Circulation: assessment of an individual to insure they have an adequate ventilator pump, oxygen uptake, and oxygen delivery system.
